Terry Pratchett has appeared in the virtual world Second Life, taking part in a live Q&A with fans from around the globe. Terry answered a host of questions in the author auditorium on Elysian Isle and then teleported to the Nation island to meet more fans.
Terry’s appearance was part of a month long promotion in Second Life, which involved the creation of a special Nation island, modelled on the island in Terry’s latest book NATION, costume parties, virtual book samplers and video and audio playbacks. This was the largest Second Life project Random House has undertaken to date, and it has generated an unprecedented amount of online buzz.
Celebrations to mark the 25th anniversary of Discworld are now drawing to a close. The year has seen a wide ranging marketing and PR campaign including a special London taxi in Discworld livery, window display competitions for independent bookshops, Discworld reading groups, marathon signing sessions at Foyles and Waterstone’s Piccadilly as well as the tiny CK Broadhurst and Hayling Island bookshops.
If you have yet to get your much-thumbed copy of Nation signed, Terry will be appearing at the Forbidden Planet book shop in London on the 3rd November at 6pm.
