The book will be published in a lavishly illustrated hardback format by Bantam Press on 30 September 2010.
In My World, Cheryl allows us an intimate glimpse behind the scenes of her busy and fascinating life. Packed full of previously unseen photographs from Cheryl’s own personal collection of favourites, together with dozens of stunning and exclusive new images, this book will be a must-have for her millions of devoted fans.
Transworld editorial director Sarah Emsley, who bought the book from literary agent Pat Lomax at Bell Lomax Moreton said, ‘Last year Cheryl Cole had a number one single, a number one album and was a judge on the UK’s most successful television programme. She continues to be an integral member of the most successful girl band the UK has ever seen. Warm, talented incredibly beautiful, greatly loved by the British public and an absolute joy to work with, she is the most talked about celebrity in the UK today. We could not be more thrilled to be publishing the first official Cheryl Cole book.’
Cheryl Cole says:
‘I think looking at pictures is a bit like listening to music – it reminds you of what was happening and how you were feeling at certain times in your life. Sometimes I look at old pictures and I can’t believe that was me. I think we all do that. I went through a phase of being a bit tomboyish when I loved trainers and Timberland boots and baggy trousers. I had pink streaks in my hair at one point but I was experimenting and at the time I liked it. I can look at photos and straight away they’ll bring back loads of memories. That’s really why I wanted to do this book, so I could choose pictures that mean something to me and tell the stories that go with them.’

Do you remember the 2008 YouTube clip that became an internet phenomenon? It showed the emotional reunion of two young men and their pet lion, Christian, after they had left him in Africa to be introduced into his rightful home in the wild.
In A Lion Called Christian those two men, Anthony ‘Ace’ Bourke and John Rendall, tell their amazing story – how they visited London from Australia in 1969 and bought a boisterous lion cub in Harrods. For a while, the three of them lived together as flatmates on the King’s Road, Chelsea, where Christian became a local celebrity. But he was growing up, fast, and even the church garden in which he exercised was becoming too small for him. How could Ace and John avoid incarcerating him in a zoo for the rest of his life?
To celebrate the paperback release of this fantastic book, we’ve got 8 copies of the TV special on DVD. Filmed in 2009, this film pulls together this amazing story, using up to date interviews, the original footage of Christian filmed in both London and Kenya, the reunion between the three and exclusive new footage of a second reunion which was to be the last time the two men would see Christian.
To enter, all you have to do is email your name and address to competition@transworld-publishers.co.uk with ‘Lion Called Christian’ in the subject line.
The winners will be chosen on Monday 29th March.

Our very own Madeline Toy, Senior Press Officer, won the inaugural Best Publicity Campaign Award for her work on The Man Who Cycled the World by Mark Beaumont. Mads had the challenge of organising publicity for an author who is usually on a bicycle in some inaccessible part of the world.
And the Best New Writer Award went to author Nicholas Clee for his critically-acclaimed Eclipse, the true story of the world’s most famous racehorse, and the rogue who owned him.
